Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.
A senior official commented the vandalism made him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
